Okay, lets take a moment here.  Since she was a part of his own crazy mind - he knew all of those mental disorders, or else she wouldn’t have been able to say them.

Dean may be a high school drop out with six bucks to his name, but he’s more than just a smart ass. He’s genuinely intelligent.

I’m offended every time fans or even the show just assume he’s not intelligent and repeatedly make digs at him for not picking up books.

Highly resourceful, he frequently utilizes improvised weapons and explosive devices; in “Croatoan”, he demonstrated knowledge of chemistry, constructing Molotov cocktails and improvised explosive devices, and in “Phantom Traveler”, he revealed knowledge of electronics and reverse engineering, having built an electromagnetic field detector from an old Walkman radio.

Let’s remember that Dean was the first person to understand what Jo meant in “Abandon All Hope” when she started listing the things they had in the store to make a bomb. He has to understand chemistry pretty well to get that off the bat. Also he rebuilt the impala from the ground up, yeah a dumb person can’t do that. He also made his own EMF meter out of a busted up walkman, that has still been shown to work in “Reading Is Fundemental”. Like how does one go about doing that? If there are books on how to do that I’m sure they’re limited. 

tl;dr: People who call Dean stupid make me laugh so goddamn hard.

Dean’s references aren’t always pop culture either, I’ve seen him reference writers from history that barely anyone has heard of.

Dean is covertly intelligent. He doesn’t mind taking a back seat to Sam in this department but he’ll take the little chances he gets to show up his brother, like when he tapped into the web cam in time after time.
